Wants to Grow!
More and more I am convinced that we play bigger roles than what we think in church growth. For so long I operated under “when God wants us to grow he will do it” Now I got to admit this was an excuse to not grow and be the leader God wanted me to be. I truly believe God wants all of our churches to grow, the bigger we are the more people we can reach. Lets face it, our fellowship is a worldwide fellowship and resources are needed to plant churches and to send our Pastors to parts of the world.
Lately God has shown me certain things. Earlier this year our church grew pretty fast. Things were moving quickly and there was so much excitement in the church and many were joining ministry, it was awesome. We retained some of those people but I got to admit we lost a lot more than we should. God showed me that our Pastor needed a better team. He needed us leaders to step up in a bigger way. I remember talking to a fellow leader and saying “we need to do more, our Pastor is going to burn himself out” So here are a couple of things to do to help your Pastor and to help your church grow.
1. Grow yourself as a leader- I realized that I must continue to grow personally. More people, more problems. You can’t give people the same advice you learned years ago. We must continue to push ourselves. Pray more, read more, study more, read leadership books, read books on being relational. Keep growing
2. Keep up with Your pastor- During this time my Pastor was changing every day it seemed. I remember telling him to slow down. Every time at service I would ask him ” Where you at today, and what is God showing you” whomever we are under we need to be in line with their vision and direction. We must constantly try to be on their trail.
3. Serve- We must always seek to serve people. If you are a new leader and you’re trying to establish yourself as a leader here is some thing I learned. In order to gain favor from those you lead, you must adapt to them. You must be patient and not seek to always rebuke or show them something. As you love them and become long-suffering and adapt to their different personalities you ultimately gain their favor. Then as time goes by, they adapt to you and now you start to influence them.
